Rock Chemical Industries (M) Berhad [“RCI”] was
incorporated on 30 January 1973 in Malaysia under the Companies
Act, 1965 as a private limited company under the name Rock
Chemical Industries (M) Sdn Bhd [“RCISB”]. In 1975 it
commissioned its first plant to locally produce white portland
cement to replace imported white cement. On November 1989,
RCISB was converted into a public company and assumed its
present name. The Company’s shares were officially listed on
the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange Second Board on 28 June 1990.
Over the 25 years of RCI’s existence, we have
built businesses around the white cement business. With an
annual capacity of 45,000 tons of white cement per year, RCI
supplied white cement to the whole nation and was the single
largest white cement provider in Singapore. However, we made
significant change in our corporate strategy in year 2000. We
sold 60% of our shares in the white cement business.
RCI diversified from manufacturing white portland
cement into producing quicklime and hydrated lime in the year
1993. The first vertical kiln erected utilize the latest state
of the art Chisaki Lime Kiln from Japan, with a daily production
capacity of 70mt of quicklime. Due to overwhelming demand, a
similar 2nd and 3rd kiln was put up in 1994 and 1996
respectively. In order to produce a higher value product,
hydrated lime, a 100MT/day hydration plant was commissioned in
late 1994. In 1999, the lime operation was transferred to RCI
Lime Sdn Bhd (“RCI-L"), a wholly owned subsidiary of RCI.
RCI today is principally involved in the
extraction, processing and distribution of limestone based
products. RCI operates three 70MT/day lime kiln in Lahat and
one 250MT/day lime kiln in Gopeng which commenced production in
January 2003. RCI’s operation is carried out mainly by a
subsidiary, RCI Lime Sdn Bhd. Through its associate company,
Batamas Sdn Bhd, RCI is also involved in the manufacturing of
Calcium Silicate Bricks. |
